I was born and raised in Fraser by my mother Grace, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Fraser High School in 2007. I was quite active throughout high school, having been involved in a plethora of extracurricular activities. I enjoyed everything from theatre to swimming/diving, from National Honor Society to Fraser Singers, from Link Crew to Track & Field. All of this to say that I am very used to staying active and, even more so, that I so very much enjoyed and appreciate what our public schools are capable of and the importance of quality education and extracurricular activities.
I graduated from Wayne State University with a BS of Psychology. I began working in the Ophthalmic field in 2013, growing within the field and attaining knowledge throughout my career. For the past 6 years, I've had the pleasure of working at Fraser Eye Care and Michigan Outpatient Surgery Center as their Refractive Services and Corneal Crosslinking Coordinator. Long story short -- I'm an eye technician that works with a number of lasers, amongst a number of other tasks revolving around surgery. I thoroughly enjoy what I do, especially given I can serve my community through my work in the process!
When my husband and I decided to settle down and purchase a home, we ultimately decided that Fraser was just the place to do so. The small town feel has always been appealing and I am thankful to know many of my neighbors. I truly hope I get the opportunity to do them, and the rest of the community, justice on City Council.
I live with my husband and our rescue pets -- two dogs (Penelope and Buffy) and three cats (Tails, Munchkin, and Mr. Skibbs). I'm a book nerd with a small library in my spare room. I also LOVE music, so you may likely catch me breaking it down while I work on my vegetable garden. I've enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, Teach 4 Detroit, and Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren.
There's open space owned by the city next to Meijer that I would like to see utilized as a dog park. There are plenty of folks that utilize the the normal parks for their dogs, so I think it would be a great opportunity to have a dog-focused park as well. I have been looking in to some grants that can potentially cover much of the cost. We could also discuss requiring registration and a key card to ensure vaccination as a way to ensure revenue for unkeep on the property (just an option that Clinton Twp utilizes).
Electrical and plumbing infrastructure is awful in Fraser. We all know it. I'd posit to guess a large part of many of our “sewage fees” are related to run off from rain considering we live in a “marshy” area. If we can find a way to improve our plumbing structure I think that may help with the water bills. Now when it comes to the electric…DTE needs to get it together and I hope to find some way to pressure them in to action.
I'd really like to incentivize businesses to become part of the community so we can get a social district of sorts started, at least part-time on the weekends! I have a number of ideas floating around and I think we can get something started to add on to the great activities being brought in to the city currently!
I know that Priority Waste pickup has been an ongoing issue in the community and, rightly, upsetting for many residents. I would like to lead the community in making Priority Waste address this and hold themselves responsible. I would also like to review our future options given the contract renewal.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
